Debate Speech Outline

Debate Speech Outline: Daniel Paull Government Whip

Purpose: To persuade the audience that Western Democracies should significantly restrict abortion.
Central Idea: Abortion should be restricted.

I.               Attention Getter - Everything is all dark, cosy, and warm. You are in the most comfortable environment you've ever known. Everything is pure bliss as you are currently living in utopia. Then in one violent moment, you feel the greatest amount of pain imaginable and you can see this blinding light and then your limbs are ripped apart from your body and you are now struggling to survive and then in one quick snap of a rubber band, it's all over. Your life is done. Your only thought was 'Mummy, how could you do this to me'

II.             Aim - I will not be providing any new material but rather summarizing what has been said in the debate about abortion. I will re emphasize what my team has said and will explain why the arguments in favor of this crime that the opposition has said are not satisfactory.

III.           Defend the Extension offered by the Member of Government.

A.    My partner explained how we are not currently conserving the rights of babies in a mother’s womb. At the moment we are giving the death penalty to innocent people. How can anyone be ok with that?

B.    Refute what the Member of Opposition said about this point of Mariah’s

C.    The Member of Government also gave alternatives to abortion. One of the most successful alternatives she explained was adoption.

D.    The opposition brought up rape but why cant adoption work for such a person. A rape victim who gave up her son for an open adoption was quoted as saying, “Brayden, my birth son, is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me and to so many other people -- especially his two thrilled new parents! This is why I would do anything in the world to save every baby in this world! I was raped.  Yes.  But he deserves to live!”

E.     Adoption works for rape victims and actually can give them some joy after a hard time in their life. Imagine being able to give so much joy to someone who has gone through something so unimaginable. Many other rape victims have been reported as having more of a hard time dealing with killing their child than actually being raped.

IV.           Refute the extension offered by the Member of Opposition

V.             Defend other members of government and rebut against previous members if appropriate.
VI.           Summarize the debate from the perspective of the Government side

A. The Prime Minister explained how a fetus is human and they still have rights before they are born. She also explained how abortion deprives the world of another human. What person would ever say they wish they had been aborted? We all want a chance to live a successful life in this world, but those who are being aborted never get this chance.

B.  The Deputy Prime Minister showed how life starts at conception so abortion is murder. It is though we are giving the death penalty to an innocent human. Is there a worse crime? He also reminded us how all humans are equal no matter what state they are in.

C.  The Member of Government showed how hypocritical it is for doctors to be killing babies. People who take an oath to save lives are now actively killing innocent children. She also gave many alternatives to abortion, the most suitable being adoption. It is much more healthy, fulfilling, and joyful to use adoption instead of abortion.

D. How can the killing of an innocent human be allowed in this country that advertises opportunity for everyone?

VII.         Closing Statement

A.   Our arguments show that in all cases abortion is not the answer and that preserving human life should always come first. Obviously the opposition could not provide any adequate reasons for killing an innocent human being.

B.    Mr. Speaker you have the opportunity to save thousands of lives and bring happiness to many. I hope we have made this an easy decision.
